Home Study Course in Floral Art and Design

The NAFAS Home Study Course is designed with an emphasis on practical floral design and is suitable for students who live overseas, live in geographically isolated areas or have difficulty attending a College of Further Education. The course aims to provide a broad based and complete flower-arranging education and an introduction to the concepts and techniques that comprises the art of design using plant material.

It is divided into three levels comprising; Level 1 (Modules 1& 2),  Level 2 (Module 3) and Level 4 Higher Certificate in Floral Art and Design.  Each Level can be studied separately. No experience is required for Level 1.

Some experience is desirable before undertaking Level 2 as the techniques introduced assume a basic understanding of floral design. We do ask for information about the level of floral design you have achieved; however, if you enjoy working with plant material and feel able to fulfil criteria that could necessitate extra work in certain units then this course is for you.

Considerable experience is required for Level 4, we would normally expect students to have completed Levels 1 and 2 first before applying for this course or to have already achieved recognized floristry/floral design qualifications.

Each student will be assigned a mentor who will establish the required standard and be their contact should they have any queries or problems. A five-day Residential Course held in the United Kingdom; usually in July or August will verify the practical assessments. All travel to these courses will be at the student’s own expense. A student may study at their preferred rate but a suggested time scale is no longer than twenty months for completion of each level.
